Grid Filament Repair

- Clean area to be repaired with alcohol or window cleaner. Wipe with a clean, dry towel to remove dust or grease. Place a strip of masking tape on each side of broken section of grid line. See Fig 1 . Apply conductive epoxy repair compound to broken area. Overlap both ends of existing grid line by about 3/4" (19 mm).
- For terminal or pigtail replacement, mask area so epoxy covers grid line and bus bar. Apply a thin layer of conductive epoxy to area where terminal connects and to nearest grid filament. Apply a thin layer of conductive epoxy on terminal and place it in position. Prevent terminal from moving by clamping or wedging.
- Carefully remove masking tape from repaired grid filament. Allow repair compound to cure for 24 hours at room temperature or use a heat gun. Apply 500-700°F (260-371°C) heat for about 15 minutes.
- After repair compound has properly cured, remove wedge or clamp from terminal. Attach terminal connectors. Check operation of rear window defogger.
CAUTION:
Glass may fracture if actual surface temperature exceeds 400°F (204°C). Hold heat gun 10" (254 mm) from repaired area.
CAUTION:
DO NOT attach terminal connectors until curing is complete.
