Wipers Not Working In High Speed Mode
- Using scan tool, actuate wiper motor in high speed mode. If wiper motor operates in high speed mode, go to next step. If wiper motor does not operate in high speed mode, go to step 3.
- Stop wiper actuation. Using scan tool, read intermittent wipe sensor voltage. While observing scan tool, turn wiper switch to high position. If scan tool displays intermittent wiper voltage 6.5 volts or less, replace multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If scan tool displays intermittent wiper voltage greater than 6.5 volts, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Stop wiper actuation. Disconnect HI/LO wiper relay and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 10 (Dark Blue wire) on HI/LO wiper relay. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Dark Blue wire between HI/LO wiper relay and fuse No. 15 (10-amp).
- Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 10 and No. 28 on HI/LO wiper relay socket. See Figure. If wiper motor does not operate in high speed, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step. If wiper motor operates in high speed, go to step 7.
- Disconnect wiper motor Light Gray 4-pin connector. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Reconnect a jumper wire between terminals No. 10 and No. 28 on HI/LO wiper relay socket. Connect test light between ground and wiper motor connector terminal "A" (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure. Using scan tool, actuate wipers in high speed mode and observe test light. If test light does not pulse on and off, disconnect test light and go to next step. If test light pulses on and off, replace HI/LO wiper relay.
- Turn ignition off and stop high speed wiper actuation. Disconnect BCM 14-pin connector C1. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect a jumper wire between ground and BCM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 8 (Violet/Pink wire). Connect test light between terminals No. 10 and No. 12 on HI/LO wiper relay socket. Turn ignition on. If test light illuminates, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Violet/Pink wire.
- Disconnect jumper wires. Disconnect wiper motor Light Gray 4-pin connector. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 10 and No. 28 on HI/LO wiper relay socket. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and wiper motor Light Gray 4-pin connector terminal "A" (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between HI/LO wiper relay and wiper motor.
