Wipers Not Working In Low Speed Mode

  1. Using scan tool, actuate wiper motor in low speed. If wiper motor operates in low speed, go to next step. If wiper motor does not operate in low speed mode, go to step  3.
  2. Stop wiper motor actuation. Using scan tool, read intermittent wipe sensor. While observing scan tool display, move wiper switch to low speed position. If scan tool displays an intermittent wiper voltage of approximately 5.5 volts, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool does not display a voltage of approximately 5.5 volts, replace multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  3. Disconnect HI/LO wiper relay and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 10 (Dark Blue wire) and No. 11 (Brown/Orange wire) on HI/LO wiper relay. See Figure. If wiper motor does not operate in low speed, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step. If wiper motor operates in low speed, replace HI/LO wiper relay.
  4. Disconnect wiper motor Light Gray 4-pin connector and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Reconnect a jumper wire between terminals No. 10 (Dark Blue wire) and No. 11 (Brown/Orange wire) on HI/LO wiper relay. Using DVOM, measure voltage on wiper motor 4-pin connector terminal "B" (Brown/Orange wire). See Figure. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Brown/Orange wire.
