Removal & Installation Non-deployed Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Dodge Intrepid, 2000 Chrysler LHS, 2000 Chrysler Intrepid, 2000 Chrysler Concorde, and 2000 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove 4 screws attaching glove box door to instrument panel and remove glove box door.
  2. Remove right instrument panel end cap. If equipped with center console, remove gearshift handle, console shifter bezel and right console side trim panel. Working through glove box opening, remove 5 screws from glove box close-out assembly. See Figure . Remove left and right A-pillar trim moldings. Remove left instrument panel end cap. Remove left lower instrument panel trim cover. Disconnect hood release cable and trunk release electrical connector. Remove panel and set aside. Remove the left knee blocker.
  3. Remove instrument panel center bezel. Disconnect heater - A/C control unit and traction control switch (if equipped), electrical connectors. If equipped with console, remove left instrument panel side cover. If not equipped with center console, remove center lower instrument panel floor bin. Remove 2 center instrument panel lower attaching nuts. Remove left (drivers) side air distribution ducts. Disconnect brake switch electrical connector. Remove bulkhead connector mounting screw. It is not necessary to disconnect bulkhead connector.
  4. Disconnect ORC) electrical connector. Disconnect 2 center instrument panel ground eyelets on left side of floor tunnel. Remove 4 steering column nuts and lower steering column to floor. Remove 3 lower left instrument panel mounting bolts. Remove 3 upper left instrument panel mounting bolts.
  5. Disconnect instrument panel-to-body harness electrical connector. Disconnect radio antenna connector. Remove 3 lower right instrument panel mounting bolts. Remove 3 upper right instrument panel mounting bolts. Pull right side of instrument panel back and set on right (passenger side) seat to access passenger air bag module.
    NOTE: Instrument panel does not have to be removed any more than this for passenger-side air bag module service.
  6. Remove 4 screws from right defroster duct). Remove 2 screws from right distribution duct assembly. Disconnect Yellow wire harness connector from air bag module assembly and 3 christmas tree fasteners. Remove right and left pencil strut-to-passenger-side air bag module screws. See Figure . Disconnect instrument panel wiring harness from air bag reinforcement bracket. Remove 4 10 mm hex head screws from deployment door reinforcement (2 screws per side). See Figure .
  7. Remove 5 screws from passenger-side air bag module assembly to retainer. See Figure . Remove the air bag module assembly from the instrument panel retainer. Remove 4 screws from reinforcement brace on air bag module. See Figure .
  8. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . DO NOT connect battery at this time. Go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CHECK  under SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
