Brake Switch Operation: Testing
- Turn ignition on. While monitoring scan tool, press brake pedal several times. If scan tool displays brake pedal PRESSED and RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display brake pedal PRESSED and RELEASED, go to BRAKE SWITCH SENSE STATUS DOES NOT CHANGE ON SCAN TOOL .NOTE: Ensure all speed control DTCs are repaired before proceeding.
- Start engine. Turn Speed Control (S/C) switch on. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe brake switch connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). See Figure. Press and release brake pedal. If test light is illuminated when brake pedal is released and not illuminated when brake pedal is pressed, go to next step. If test light is not illuminated when brake pedal is released or illuminated when brake pedal is pressed, replace brake switch. See BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe brake switch connector terminal No. 1 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If test light is illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not illuminated, repair open on Pink/Dark Blue wire between brake switch and fuse block. Perform TEST VER-2A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using test light connected to ground, backprobe brake switch connector terminal No. 2 (White/Tan wire). Press brake pedal. If test light is illuminated, test is complete. If test light is not illuminated, replace brake switch. See BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TEST VER-2A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
