No Response From CAB Module
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- Replace Fuse No. 11
- Fused Ignition Switch Output Circuit Shorted To Ground
- Controller Anti-Lock Brake Shorted To Ground
- Ground Circuit Open
- Open Fused Ignition Switch Output Circuit
- CCD Bus (+) Circuit Open
- CCD Bus (-) Circuit Open
- Controller Anti-Lock Brake
Testing
- Turn the ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 in the fuse block. If the fuse is open, go to next step. If the fuse is closed, go to step 4 .
- Replace fuse No. 11 in the fuse block. Turn the ignition on. Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 in the fuse block. If the fuse is open, go to next step. If the fuse is closed, check the fused ignition switch output circuit for an intermittent short to ground.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the CAB C1 harness connector. Replace the fuse No. 11 in the fuse block. If the fuse is open, repair the fused ignition switch output circuit for a short to ground. If the fuse is closed, replace the CAB. See CONTROLLER ANTI-LOCK BRAKE in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect the CAB C1 harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and both ground circuits in the CAB C1 harness connector. If the resistance is below 5.0 ohms for both measurements, go to next step. If the resistance is above 5.0 ohms, repair the ground circuit for an open.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the fused ignition switch output circuit. If the test light illuminates, go to next step. If the test light does not illuminate, repair the fused ignition switch output circuit for an open.
- Connect a jumper wire between the CCD Bus (+) circuit and ground. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, enter SYSTEM MONITORS then CCD Bus Test. If the scan tool displays: SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If it does not display: SHORT TO GROUND, repair the CCD Bus (+) circuit for an open.
- Turn the ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between the CCD Bus (-) circuit and ground. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, enter SYSTEM MONITORS then CCD Bus Test. If the scan tool displays: SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If it does not display: SHORT TO GROUND, repair the CCD Bus (-) circuit for an open.
- If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the CAB. See CONTROLLER ANTI-LOCK BRAKE in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
NOTE:
Ensure the scan tool can establish communications with the PCM and MIC before beginning.
