Illuminated Entry Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Possible Causes:

  1. Illuminated Entry Possible Door Ajar Symptoms
  2. Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Open
  3. Courtesy Lamp Switch Output Circuit Open
  4. All Courtesy/Dome Lamp Bulbs Open
  5. Fused B+ Circuit Open
  6. Fuse No. 1 Open Test
  7. CTM Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Open

Testing

  1. While monitoring the scan tool, actuate the driver and passenger door ajar switches by opening both doors. If the door ajar switches become CLOSED with the appropriate door, go to next step. If the door ajar switches did not become CLOSED with the appropriate door, go to DOOR AJAR SYSTEM  for related symptoms.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp switch. See Figure . Turn the ignition on. Connect a jumper wire between the courtesy lamp driver circuit terminal D (Yellow wire) and ground. If the courtesy lamps come on, go to next step. If the courtesy lamps did not come on, repair the open in Yellow wire.
  3. Disconnect the front dome/courtesy lamp bulb connector and or the front dome/reading lamp bulb connector. See Figure and Figure . Disconnect the dome/courtesy lamp switch connector, part of the headlamp switch. See Figure . Using a DVOM, measure the resistance between the terminal H (Light Green wire) and the front dome connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to next step. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the open in the Light Green wire.
  4. Remove and check inoperative bulbs. If the bulbs are OK, go to next step. If the bulbs are not OK, replace the defective bulbs.
  5. Fuse No. 1 of the relay/fuse block, must have voltage on both sides before continuing. Disconnect the headlamp switch connector. Measure the voltage of the fused B+ circuit at the headlamp switch connector. If the voltage is above 10-volts, repair the fused B+ circuit for an open.
  6. Be sure the fuse cavity being checked has the correct fuse. Replace with the correct fuse if necessary. Inspect fuse No. 1 (15-amp) of the relay/fuse block for an open. If the correct fuse is open, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  , for a possible cause of the open fuse.
  7. Backprobe a jumper wire to terminal 2 (Yellow) of the CTM C2 connector and ground. See Figure . If the courtesy lamps come on, there are no possible causes remaining, replace the CTM. If the courtesy lamps do not come on, test is complete.
