Fuel System: Notes

WARNING: ALWAYS release fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.
NOTE: For additional testing of fuel system and related circuits, see FUEL SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.

Basic diagnosis of fuel system should begin by checking fuel pump operation and fuel pressure. The fuel system is used to supply an appropriate mixture to the engine. See Fig 1 . The system consists of the fuel tank, fuel filter, fuel pump and the fuel hose that couples each part. Engine malfunctions caused by insufficient fuel supply can be caused by faults in the fuel hose, fuel filter or fuel pump module. Gather information from the customer. Verify that the condition described by the customer exists. Find the malfunction by checking system. Verify malfunction is eliminated.
