Wheel Alignment

Vehicle wheel alignment is positioning of all interrelated front and rear suspension angles. These angles affect handling and steering of vehicle when it is in motion. Proper wheel alignment is essential for efficient steering, good directional stability, and proper tire wear.

The method of checking a vehicle's front and rear wheel alignment varies depending on manufacturer and type of equipment used. The equipment manufacturer's instructions should always be followed to ensure accuracy of alignment, except when Daimler Chrysler Corporation's wheel alignment specifications differ. On this vehicle, the following suspension angles can be adjusted:

Before adjusting alignment, check riding height. Measure height from inboard edge of fenderwell directly above center of wheel, unless specified otherwise. Riding height must be checked with vehicle on level floor and correct size tires properly inflated. Bounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle.

Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height from front to rear and side to side. Check passenger and luggage compartments for extra-heavy items, and remove if present. For vehicle level specifications, see Figure. If vehicle is not level, check, repair or replace suspension components.

Check wheel alignment and make all wheel alignment adjustments while vehicle is sitting on a flat, level surface. Typical wheel alignment angles and measurements are described in following paragraphs.
