Lower Control Arm: Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the front wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove the front spring. (Refer to SUSPENSION/FRONT/SPRING - REMOVAL) .
- Remove the shock absorber lower mounting nut and bolt (1).
- Pull the shock absorber out of the mounting bracket.
- Remove the sway bar from the lower control arm by removing the two nuts (1) then removing the clamp.
- Remove the nut (2) attaching the lower control arm to the lower ball joint.
CAUTION: Do not use pneumatic tools to tighten the bolt on the special tool.
- Using Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller (1) press out the lower ball joint stud from the steering knuckle.
CAUTION: Support the lower control arm before removing mounting bolts.
- Remove the two bolts (1) attaching the lower control arm to the frame.
- Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
