Shift Interlock Cable: Installation

CAUTION:
When installing interlock cable assembly, care must be taken not to bend exposed cable wire and slug at shifter end of cable.
- Route interlock cable into lower dash panel and towards console as removed.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position (4). See Fig 1.
1 - IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER 2 - INTERLOCK CABLE - Install the interlock cable (2) into the interlock housing at the steering column. Verify the cable snaps into the housing. See Fig 2.
- Install nylon cable retainer to lower column mounting stud.
- Connect BTSI solenoid connector.
- Insert interlock cable core wire into interlock adjustment lever groove. Make sure the interlock cable slug is seated in the groove.
1 - SHIFTER ASSEMBLY 2 - INTERLOCK CABLE - Insert interlock cable adjuster end (2) into bracket and snap into place. See Fig 3.NOTE: The Interlock Cable MUST be adjusted. (Refer to TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE/AUTOMATIC - 41TE/SHIFT INTERLOCK CABLE - ADJUSTMENTS)
1 - CENTER CONSOLE 2 - SCREW 3 - PARK BRAKE HANDLE - - - Install center console assembly (1). See Fig 4.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE ASSEMBLY 2 - GEARSHIFT BEZEL 3 - LAMP CONNECTOR - Install gearshift bezel (2). See Fig 5.
1 - GEARSHIFT KNOB 2 - SET SCREW 3 - GEARSHIFT MECHANISM - Install the gearshift knob (1). See Fig 6and tighten set screw (2) to 2 N.m (20 in.lbs.).
1 - STEERING COLUMN LOWER SHROUD 2 - IGNITION CYLINDER - Tilt wheel to full down position and install upper steering column shroud.
- Install steering column lower shroud (1). See Fig 7.
1 -KNEE BOLSTER 2 - ATTACHING POINTS - Install lower knee bolster screws and knee bolster. See Fig 8.
1 - FUSE PANEL COVER 2 - SCREW - Install fuse panel cover (1). See Fig 9.
- Connect the battery negative cable.
