Diagnostic Test

  1. 1) CHECK COMMUNICATION WITH ORC 

    Turn the ignition on.

    Using the scan tool, attempt to communicate with the ORC.

    Is the scan tool able to communicate with the ORC? 

    Yes 

    1. Go to step  2).

    No 

    1. Check the CAN Interior Bus circuits for an open (between the DLC and the spice), short to ground or short to voltage in accordance with the Service Information.
  2. 2) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT OPEN 
    WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the Occupant Classification Module (Pass Seat Occupant Detection) harness connector.

    NOTE: Check connector - Clean/repair as necessary.
    WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition on, then reconnect the battery.

    Measure the voltage Fused B+ circuit at the OCM harness connector.

    Is the voltage above 10 volts? 

    Yes 

    1. Got To  3).

    No 

    WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.
    1. Repair the Fused B+ circuit for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. 3) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN 
    WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

    Measure the resistance of the Ground circuit from the OCM harness connector to ground.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go to step  4).

    No 

    1. Repair the Ground circuit for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. 4) CAN INTERIOR BUS CIRCUITS OPEN 

    Measure the resistance of the CAN Interior Bus circuits from the OCM harness connector to the DLC.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms for both circuits? 

    Yes 

    1. If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.
    2. Replace the Occupant Classification Module (Pass Seat Occupant Detection) in accordance with the Service Information.
    3. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .

    No 

    1. Repair the CAN Interior Bus circuit for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
