Rear Drive Module (RDM)
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.
1 - Pressure Sensor Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect the pressure sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Pump Motor Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect the pump motor wire harness connector.CAUTION:
Do not allow the driveshaft to hang from the vehicle unsupported. Damage may occur to the joint, boot, and center bearing from over-angulation.
1 - Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt - Apply alignment index marks to the rear propeller shaft flange and the rear pinion flange.
- Remove and discard the rear propeller shaft bolts.
- Separate the rear propeller shaft from the rear pinion flange and secure the shaft to the side.
- Remove the rear left halfshaft. Refer to REAR HALFSHAFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Support the Rear Drive Module (RDM) with a suitable jack and secure it with chains.
1 - Isolator Bolt 2 - RDM - Remove the RDM front bracket to isolator bolts.
1 - RDM Bolts 2 - RDM - Remove the RDM front bracket to RDM bolts.
1 - Front Bracket 2 - RDM - Remove the RDM front bracket from the vehicle.
1 - Rear Isolator Bolt 2 - RDM - Remove the RDM rear isolator bolt.
1 - Vent Hose - Disconnect the vent hose.
1 - RH Halfshaft 2 - RDM - Disconnect the RH halfshaft from the RDM.
- Remove the RDM from the vehicle.
- If necessary, remove the RDM rear bracket.
INSTALLATION
- If removed, install the RDM rear bracket and tighten the bolts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Secure the RDM on a suitable jack and secure it with chains.
- Position the RDM in the vehicle.
1 - RH Halfshaft 2 - RDM - Install the RH halfshaft on the RDM.
- Raise the RDM with the RH halfshaft into position.
1 - Vent Hose - Connect the vent hose.
1 - Vent Hose - Install RDM rear bracket isolator bolt hand tight.
1 - Rear Isolator Bolt 2 - RDM - Place the RDM front bracket in the vehicle.
1 - Front Bracket 2 - RDM - Install the RDM front bracket to RDM bolts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
1 - RDM Bolts 2 - RDM - Install the RDM front bracket to isolator bolts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
1 - Isolator Bolt 2 - RDM - Tighten the RDM rear bracket to isolator bolt to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
1 - Rear Isolator Bolt 2 - RDM - Install the rear left halfshaft Refer to REAR HALFSHAFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the RH rear halfshaft hub nut and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.NOTE: The six bolts that are used to secure the propeller shaft to the RDM input flange MUST be replaced.NOTE: Use of Anti-seize compound is prohibited.
- Connect the propeller shaft to the RDM, align the index marks made during removal, install NEW
rear propeller shaft bolts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

1 - Rear Propeller shaft Bolt - Connect the pump motor wire harness connector.
1 - Pump Motor Wire Harness Connector - Connect the pressure sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Pressure Sensor Wire Harness Connector - Fill the RDM with differential fluid. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL FLUID FILL .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
