Steering Column
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the gap hider. Refer to GAP HIDER, STEERING COLUMN SHROUD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the lower steering column pinch bolt DISCARD pinch bolt.
Do not start to remove (or break free) Pinch Bolt with an impact wrench/gun.
1 - Lower Steering Column Pinch Bolt 2 - Dash Panel Bolt - Remove the wire retainer from the steering column.
1 - Steering Column Nuts 2 - Wire Retainer - Remove the steering column nuts.
- Remove the steering column assembly.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Position the steering column in the vehicle. Install the steering column nuts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the steering column to the steering gear. The hole in steering column must align with whistle notch in the steering gear. Hand start a NEW pinch bolt and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
