O2 Sensor

  1. Install Engine Control System Sub Harness (09991-87702 000 ) to check terminal. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature and hold idle speed to 3000 RPM for 2 minutes.
  2. Short Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "T" (Brown) with ground terminal (Black). Connect DVOM between Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "VF" (Green) and engine ground.
  3. Hold engine speed to 1500 RPM. Ensure DVOM reading changes 8 times or more for 10 seconds. If change in voltage occurs 8 times or more, O2 sensor is functioning properly.
  4. If voltage reading does not change, proceed to step 7). If voltage reading occurs less than 8 times, disconnect short between Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "T" (Brown) and ground (Black) terminal. Hold engine speed to 3000 RPM.
  5. Reduce and hold engine speed to 2500 RPM. Short Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "T" (Brown) and ground (Black) terminal. Ensure DVOM reading changes 8 times or more.
  6. If change in voltage reading occurs 8 times or more, O2 sensor is functioning properly. If change in voltage reading occurs less than 8 times, replace O2 sensor.
  7. If voltage reading does not change, perform diagnostic check and read diagnostic code(s). If code(s) other than normal code(s) are indicated, perform trouble shooting according to diagnostic code(s).
  8. If normal codes are indicated, start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Hold engine speed for 2 minutes at 3000 RPM, then reduce engine speed to 1500 RPM.
  9. Short Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "T" (Brown) and ground (Black) terminal. Measure voltage between Engine Control System Sub Harness terminal "VF" (Green) and engine ground.
  10. If measured voltage is 5 volts, air/fuel ratio of fuel mixture is too rich. Repair for too rich fuel mixture. If measured voltage is zero volt and engine is idling normally, replace O2 sensor. If measured voltage is zero volt and engine is not idling normally, repair too lean fuel mixture.
