EGR System Operation Check
- Connect tachometer to engine and remove vacuum hose from EGR valve. Connect hand vacuum pump to EGR valve.
- Start engine and apply vacuum to EGR valve. Engine RPM should drop as vacuum reaches 3 to 5 in. Hg. If engine speed does not drop, a defective EGR valve or plugged intake manifold is indicated.
