Single Module Engine Controller (SMEC)

The SMEC contains the necessary circuits to drive ignition coil, fuel injectors and alternator field. It contains a 14-pin connector and a 60-pin connector. The SMEC is a digital computer containing microprocessors. It receives input signals from various switches and sensors.

The SMEC then computes the fuel injector pulse width, spark advance, ignition coil dwell, idle speed, purge, cooling fan start and alternator charge rate. The SMEC contains voltage converters which convert battery voltage to 9 volt output. The SMEC is located on the right inner fender panel. See Figure .
