Interior Light Test 5A - Key-In Light Inoperative
NOTE:
Perform INTERIOR LIGHT TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Close all doors and wait one minute. Open and close driver's front door while watching key-in light. If key-in light comes on and then after 30 seconds goes off, system is currently operating properly. If key-in light does not operate as described and courtesy lights do not illuminate when left front door is opened, go to DOOR AJAR TEST 3A. If key-in light does not operate as described and courtesy lights do illuminate when driver's door is opened, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate key-in light. If key-in light does not flash on and off, go to next step. If key-in light flashes on and off, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block. See Figure in CHIME TEST 2A.
- Stop key-in light actuation and remove key-in bulb. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. Inspect key-in bulb and socket. If key-in bulb and socket are okay, go to next step. If key-in bulb is open or socket is damaged, repair socket or replace bulb as necessary.
- Install key-in bulb. Disconnect key-in light 2-pin connector and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. See Figure in CHIME TEST 4B. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on key-in light 2-pin connector, terminal No. 1 (Pink/Violet wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Pink/Violet wire between fuse No. 5 and key-in light connector.
- Reconnect key-in light 2-pin connector. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) "A" connector. BCM is located with junction block. See Figure in CHIME TEST 2A. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on connector, terminal No. 17 (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between BCM and key-in light.
