Temperature Gauge Not Operating Properly

NOTE: Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with instrument cluster. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, perform NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  test under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Push and hold trip/odometer reset button while turning ignition switch to RUN position. Release trip/odometer reset button to start self-test. Observe Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gauge. ECT gauge should reach following calibration points: 130, low end of normal, high end of normal, then 260. If ECT gauge reaches specified calibration points, go to next step. If ECT gauge does not reach specified calibration points, replace instrument cluster.   3. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. If any ECT sensor DTCs are present, perform appropriate test(s) in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no ECT sensor DTCs are present, check ECT sensor. See appropriate procedure in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
