Fuel Level Gauge Not Operating Properly

NOTE: Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with instrument cluster. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, perform NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  test under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Push and hold trip/odometer reset button while turning ignition switch to RUN position. Release trip/odometer reset button to start self-test. Observe fuel gauge. Fuel gauge should reach following calibration points: empty, 1/8, 1/4, then "F". If fuel gauge does not reach specified calibration points, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - RAM VAN & RAM WAGON article. If fuel gauge reaches specified calibration points on vehicles equipped with 5.2L CNG engine, test is complete. On all other vehicles, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. If any fuel level sensor DTCs are present, perform appropriate test(s) in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no fuel level sensor DTCs are present, test is complete.
