Engine Control Self-Diagnostics: Introduction

NOTE: This article applies to both gasoline and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) models. CNG models are equipped only with the 5.2L. Test procedures which apply only to a specified model will be identified by a model distinction. Test procedures which apply to all models will not have a model distinction.

Perform all steps in appropriate BASIC DIAGNOSTICS PROCEDURES article. If no fault is found while performing basic diagnostic procedures, proceed with self-diagnostics. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present after entering self-diagnostics, perform TEST NTC-1: NO TROUBLE CODE TEST MENU  located after DTC tests under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS for engine diagnosis. If after performing TEST NTC-1, problem is not identified and repaired, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - EXCEPT DIESEL article for diagnosis by symptom.

NOTE: Before performing any testing procedures, check for any related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
