High Beam Indicator Output Open
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase Central Timer Module (CTM) DTCs. Turn ignition off, then back on. Using scan tool, observe CTM DTCs. If scan tool displays HIGH BEAM INDICATOR OUTPUT OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HIGH BEAM INDICATOR OUTPUT OPEN, problem is intermittent. Visually inspect and wiggle test related wiring.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 26-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C1. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Connect fused jumper wire between ground and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 18 (Red/Gray wire). See Figure . If high beam indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If high beam indicator illuminates, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2. See Figure . Using DVOM, measure resistance of Red/Gray wire between Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 18. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Gray wire between Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 18.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 (Red/Gray wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Red/Gray wire between Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 18.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect high beam indicator bulb and bulb holder. Replace high beam indicator bulb and/or holder as necessary. If high beam indicator bulb and holder are okay, replace instrument cluster.
