Sensor, Particulate Matter: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  3. Disconnect the Particulate Matter (PM) sensor wire harness connector (4).
  4. Disconnect the PM sensor module wire harness from retainer (2).
  5. Remove nuts (3) and the PM sensor module (1).

  6. Remove retainers (2) and slightly pull down on exhaust heat shield (1) to expose wire.

  7. Using a six sided crow foot, remove the PM sensor (1) from the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR).
  8. If the PM sensor fails to loosen use a torque wrench set to 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.) and loosen PM sensor (1).
    NOTE:

    DO NOT  use a torch as a heat source.

  9. If the PM sensor is still not loose after applying 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.), then use a heat gun to the PM sensor boss for 1 minute at 450° C (842° F).
