Section 17 (Front Axle): Installation

  1. Install the front axle assembly (1) into position.
  2. Install and tighten the axle housing-to-engine bolts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Install power steering return line to cradle by fastening clips (1).

  4. Install axle assembly support bracket (1) and bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the front axle disconnect. Refer to DISCONNECT, FRONT AXLE, INSTALLATION .
  6. Install RH catalytic converter/exhaust pipe assembly. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, INSTALLATION .
  7. Install front driveshaft. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  8. Install both front halfshafts. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  9. Fill the axle with the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Tighten the fill plug (1) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    Fluid level should be at or near the bottom of the fill hole.

  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
