Arm, Lower Control: Installation

  1. Position lower control arm into pivot brackets on suspension cross-member.
  2. For right side, install the front horizontal mounting bolt (1) and the rear vertical mounting bolt (2) and nut attaching lower control arm to cross-member. Do not tighten bolts at this time. 
  3. For left side only, rotate the engine and transmission away from the front horizontal bolt (1), then install the front horizontal mounting bolt (1) and the rear vertical mounting bolt (2) and nut attaching lower control arm to cross-member. Do not tighten bolts at this time.

  4. Install the lower control arm to the ball joint (1).
  5. Install a NEW  nut (3) attaching lower control arm to ball joint by holding rod end stud stationary while tightening nut with a wrench. Using a crowfoot wrench on a torque wrench, tighten the nut to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Install stabilizer link stud through lower control arm and tighten nut (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. For left side only, install the through bolt (3). Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, REMOVAL .
  8. Tighten the through bolt (3) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Lower vehicle on the hoist, place a floor jack under the control arm. Raise the jack to ride height.

  10. Tighten front horizontal bolt (1) to 356 N-m (263 ft. lbs.) and rear vertical bolt to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  12. Install tire and wheel assembly and tighten bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Lower vehicle.
  14. Perform wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
