Removal And Installation: Removal

WARNING:
Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:
Take the proper precautions to protect the face of the A/C heater control, center bezel and the instrument panel switch pod from cosmetic damage while performing this procedure.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel center air vent bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the instrument panel trim panel. Refer to PANEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the shifter cover bezel. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- Remove the four screws (1) that secure the A/C heater control (2) to the instrument panel cover.
- Release the A/C heater control (1a) from the locating pins (1b) on the instrument panel cover by gently pushing the A/C heater control towards the front of the vehicle.
- Tilt the top of the A/C heater control (1a) back toward the opening in the instrument panel cover and pull the A/C heater control (1a) partially from the instrument panel cover.NOTE:
Temperature control lever shown in illustration, mode door lever similar.
- Using trim stick C-4755 or equivalent (1), remove the mode door and temperature control levers (2).
- Disconnect the wire harness connectors (3) from the A/C heater control.
- Remove the cable retaining clips (3) from the mode door and temperature control cables and remove the A/C heater control from the vehicle.
