Steering Column Overhaul: Inspection
- Column and housing bearings are not serviceable separately. If column on housing bearings are damaged or worn, replace column or housing as a unit.
- Measure steering column if collapse of column is suspected. See Fig 1. Measurement should be at least 3.54" (90 mm). If less than specification, replace steering column.
- Check pivot pins, flex joint and support housing for looseness at pivot points. Check tilt lock shoes from worn teeth. Replace parts as necessary.
