Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

The TPS, located on throttle body, is a variable resistor. Movable contact inside sensor rotates with throttle valve shaft, sensing throttle valve opening. As throttle valve shaft rotates, sensor output voltage changes. Based on signal generated by sensor, ECU detects throttle valve opening and determines engine operation mode (acceleration or deceleration).
