Circuit Test: A/T

  1. Ensure transmission gear selector is in Park or Neutral position. Using a voltmeter, check for battery voltage at starter solenoid terminal "S" when ignition switch is turned to START position. If voltage exists, repair or replace starter. If voltage does not exist, locate park/neutral switch 12-pin wiring connector. Park/neutral switch is mounted to transmission lever.
  2. Using test light, backprobe both Black/Yellow wires (terminals No. 5 and 8, non-turbo; terminals No. 7 and 8, turbo) of park/neutral switch connector when ignition switch is turned to START position. If test light illuminates for both wires, repair open circuit between park/neutral switch and starter. If test light only illuminates for one wire, adjust park/neutral switch and retest or replace as necessary.
  3. If test light does not illuminate for either wire, remove steering column covers to locate ignition switch 6-pin connector. Using test light, backprobe ignition switch 6-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire) and turn ignition switch to START position. If test light illuminates, repair Black/Yellow wire circuit between ignition switch and park/neutral switch.
  4. If test light does not illuminate, use a voltmeter to check ignition switch 6-pin connector terminal No. 6 (White wire) for battery voltage. If battery voltage does not exist, replace main fusible link. If battery voltage exists at ignition switch 6-pin connector terminal No. 6 (White wire), and does not exist at ignition switch 6-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire) when ignition switch is turned to START position, replace ignition switch.
