Removal And Installation: Removal

NOTE:

Before removing and installing the Driver AirBag (DAB), the following preliminary operations must be carried out.

Turn the ignition off.

Turn off the instrument panel.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.

Wait for at least 1 minute before continuing.

FOLLOW ALL THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. Refer to WARNING .

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the steering column upper and lower shrouds. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, LOWER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONSHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, UPPER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Disengage the upper retaining clip (1a) and the side retainers (1b) and move aside the clockspring for airbag module on steering wheel (1c).

  5. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1).
  6. Keep the clockspring for airbag module on steering wheel.
