Automatic Transmission (Service Information): Installation
NOTE:
It is necessary to perform the re-learn procedure anytime the transmission is being replaced.
NOTE:
Verify that the dowel pins are present in the engine before installing the transmission.
- Using a suitable transmission jack, lift the transmission into position.
- Rotate the flex plate until the bolt hole with the flats is at the 2 O'clock position and align the transmission to the engine.
- Install the lower transmission to engine block bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission to oil pan bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

- Install the upper transmission to engine block bolts and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

- Install new torque convertor bolts and tighten in the following sequence:
- Step 1 - Tighten the torque convertor bolts to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.).
- Step 2 - Tighten the torque convertor bolts to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.).
- Install the torque convertor access panel.
- Install the engine and transmission as an assembly to the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Fill the transmission. Refer to FLUID, STANDARD PROCEDURE and CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
