Ignition Timing: Adjustments

TIMING ADJUSTMENT

1. Place transmission in Neutral or Park with A/C Heater in off position.
2. Plug vacuum hoses from the distributor vacuum advance connection at the distributor.



3. Connect an inductive timing light.
4. Connect a tachometer.



5. If equipped with a barometric pressures switch (ignition module 12A243), disconnect it from the ignition module and place a jumper wire across the pins at the ignition module connector (yellow and black wires).
6. If vehicle is not equipped with a barometric pressures switch, disconnect wire from electrical harness to ignition module and place a jumper wire across pins at the ignition module.
7. Start engine and allow to reach operating temperature.



8. With engine at timing rpm, check or adjust initial timing to specification. Specifications
9. Unplug and reconnect vacuum hoses. Remove any jumpers from ignition module connector and reconnect.
