Timing Check

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 1988 Ford Ranger, 1988 Ford RV Cutaway, 1988 Ford Pickup, 1988 Ford F-Super Duty, and 1988 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn key off, wait 10 seconds. Start engine. Activate KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING (KOER) SELF-TEST  . After the last service code has been displayed, the timing will remain fixed for 2 minutes, unless SELF-TEST is deactivated.
  2. Correct SELF-TEST timing equals base ignition timing (10 degrees BTDC on all engines) plus 17-23 degrees BTDC. If timing is not 27-33 degrees BTDC, go to TEST D13  . If timing is 27-33 degrees BTDC, proceed with KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING (KOER) SELF-TEST.
