Tune-Up Notes

NOTE: Always refer to Emission Control Label in engine compartment before attempting tune-up. If manual and label differ, always use emission label specifications.

When performing tune-up on vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter, do not allow or create a condition of engine misfire in one or more cylinders for an extended period of time. Damage to catalytic converter from overheating may occur due to loading with unburned fuel.

Before making a compression check or cranking engine with a remote starter switch, disconnect ignition wire at distributor or disconnect feed wire in DIS systems.

Do not remove ignition wires while engine is running. Ignition voltage is extremely high and can cause harmful electrical shock and electronic ignition system damage.

NOTE: Vehicles built before 1/31/89 with 3.01, engine could experience a miss or a hesitation or bucking condition (usually during first 15 minutes running) caused by faulty low level oil relay. Disconnect relay, located on right side of oil pan. If symptoms disappear, replace relay.
