Control Switches

  1. Check main cruise control circuit fuse and stoplight fuse. If fuses are okay, disconnect 6-pin amplifier connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in this article. Connect voltmeter between circuit No. 151 (Light Blue/Black wire) and ground (Red/Yellow wire on Escort and Tracer).
  2. Turn ignition on. Press cruise control switch ON button and check for battery voltage. If battery voltage is not present, check circuit between control switch and amplifier connector. Repair system as necessary.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between same circuit and ground. Rotate steering wheel through its full range, while performing the following checks:
    • Press OFF button and check for a reading of 0-1 ohm.
    • Press SET/ACCEL button and check for a reading between 646 -714 ohms.
    • Press COAST button and check for a reading between 114-126 ohms.
    • Press RESUME button and check for a reading between 2090-2310 ohms.

If resistance is not within specification, isolate and check switches, and ground. Repair or replace as necessary. Reconnect amplifier connector.
