July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

No-Load Test

  1. Turn headlights on for 15 seconds, then turn them off. Connect DVOM to battery terminals. Measure and record battery voltage.
  2. Start engine and run at 1500 RPM with no electrical load on engine. Voltage should be 14.1-14.7 volts. If voltage is as specified, charging system is okay. If voltage increase is less than 2.5 volts higher than that measured in step 1), go to LOAD TEST. If voltage increase is more than 2.5 volts higher than that measured in step 1), repair or replace alternator.
