Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

Oxygen Sensor (O2S):






1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

2. Disconnect Oxygen Sensor (O2S) electrical connector.

3. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.

4. Raise vehicle.

5. Using a suitable wrench, remove O2S sensor.

INSTALLATION

1. Install O2S sensor. Tighten to 29-49 Nm (22-36 ft lb).

2. Lower the vehicle.

3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 8-11 Nm (69-95 in lb).

4. Plug in electrical connector.

5. Connect negative battery cable.
