Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Apply parking brake. Ensure that vehicle is in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T).

2. Warm engine to operating temperature.

3. Turn all electrical loads OFF.

4. Connect timing light.

Data Link Connector:






5. Install a jumper wire between data link connector terminals GROUND and STI.

IG Terminal:






6. Connect tachometer positive lead to data link connector IG terminal and negative lead to negative battery post.

Crankshaft Pulley:






7. Inspect ignition timing:

Base Timing: 10° ±1° BTDC @ 700-800 rpm

8. If marks are not aligned, loosen mounting bolts and turn distributor until timing is within specification.

9. Tighten mounting bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft lb)

10. Make sure timing did not move when bolts were tightened.

11. Remove test equipment and jumper wire from data link connector.
