Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Vehicle Speed Sensor:

PURPOSE
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) transmits information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for determining shifting schedules.

OPERATION
The speed sensor turns a Hall effect pickup sensor, and an AC voltage is created. The AC voltage signal is developed into a DC digital signal and sent to the TCM.
