Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

The Throttle Position (TP) sensor uses a potentiometer to detect throttle plate opening angle and supplies the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) an input signal indicating throttle position. The signal is used to regulate air fuel mixture. The TPS also integrates an Idle (IDL) switch. The IDL switch part of the TPS detects when the throttle plate is closed and an idle condition is occuring.
