Differential Electronic Module (DEM): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: If installing a new DEM, install a new solenoid valve.
    NOTE: Coat the new oil temperature sensor seal with Volvo transmission oil.
    NOTE: Install the concave side of the washer facing downward.

  1. Assemble the DEM as shown.
  2. Install the DEM upper bolt and the DEM in the active on-demand coupling cover. Then install the DEM lower bolt.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

  3. Connect the DEM electrical connectors.
  4. Flash the DEM with the current software, if a new DEM is installed. For additional information, refer to DRIVELINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
