Inspection and Verification: Notes

- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical Electrical - Steering column
- Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 19 (15A)
- Tilt/telescope switch
- Circuitry
- Electrical connectors
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step
- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to carry out diagnostic tool data link test. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . If the self-test is passed for the instrument cluster, retrieve the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX to continue diagnostics.
- If the self-test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
- If the instrument cluster cannot be accessed by the diagnostic tool, refer to the instrument cluster diagnostics for further instructions. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
