Pinpoint Test: Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Pickup Heritage. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Pinpoint tests are step-by -step diagnostic tests used to isolate the cause of a driveability symptom or system fault. The pinpoint test steps include references to specific service information articles for component inspection and testing, references to the System Wiring Diagrams articles for circuit routing and electrical component locations, testing of engine control components (relays, switches, sensors, and solenoids) and basic circuit checks (explained in this article).
NOTE:
Vehicle inspection and preparation should be performed before starting any pinpoint test.
NOTE:
Always turn the key to the OFF position unless directed otherwise by the pinpoint test.
NOTE:
After the fault has been isolated and the correct repairs have been made, restore the vehicle, clear the DTCs, rerun Diagnostic Quick Test, remove all test equipment and reconnect all components.
