Grid Filament Repair
NOTE:
Any single or combination of breaks totaling more than 1" (25 mm) in length cannot be repaired.
- Ensure vehicle is at room temperature, and repair area is free of all dirt, wax, grease, oil, or other foreign matter.
- Mark location of break on outside of window. Using cellulose tape, mask area directly above and below break. See Fig 1. Break should be at center of mask and gap between tapes must not be wider than width of grid. Using Rear Window Defroster Repair Kit (50-25-0584-0029), place grid line mask over break aligning cutout slots on either side of repair area. Apply epoxy to damaged area. Remove mask without disturbing epoxy.
- Using a heat gun, heat repair area for 1-2 minutes at a distance about 1-2" (25-50 mm). Repair area should heat to approximately 300°F (149°C). Rear window defogger may be used immediately after repair. DO NOT disturb repair area for 24 hours, for optimum adhesion to occur.
- Inspect outside appearance of repair. If repair compound is visible above or below grid line, remove excess compound. To do so, place single-edge razor blade parallel to grid and scrape gently toward grid.
