Steering System Drive Test

  1. Check For Tire Pull

Rotate the front wheel and tire assemblies side-to-side. Carry out a road test on a smooth road. Does the vehicle drift/pull? If the vehicle pulls in the opposite direction go to next step. If the vehicle still pulls in the same direction, go to step  3. If the vehicle no longer pulls to either side, then the condition has been corrected.
  2. Rotate Wheel & Tire Assemblies Front-To-Rear

Rotate the front wheel and tire assemblies front-to-rear. Carry out a road test on a smooth road. Does the vehicle drift/pull? If yes, then go to next step. If not, then the condition has been corrected.
  3. NOTE: The vehicle will tend to pull toward the side with the least positive caster and the most positive camber.

  4. Check Wheel Alignment
Using a suitable alignment system, measure the wheel alignment settings. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES -- CARS article in SUSPENSIONS. Correct caster and camber as necessary, then retest system for normal operation.
