Instrument Panel: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
  1. If removing the instrument panel, position the front seats rearward.
  2. Disable the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Disabling and Activating in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  3. If removing the instrument panel, remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .
  4. If removing the instrument panel, remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .
  5. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

    To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: 

    Part Steps
    Instrument panel 1-33
    Instrument panel steering column cover opening 1,2
    Instrument panel steering column reinforcement 1-4
    Utility compartment 5,6

  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
