Power Steering System Filling

    WARNING: Do not mix oil types. Any mixture or any unapproved oil could lead to seal deterioration and leaks. A leak could ultimately cause loss of fluid, which could result in a power steering assist.

  1. Fill the power steering reservoir to the full cold or remote reservoir center mark.
  2. Remove the fuel pump relay located in the battery junction box to disable the vehicle from starting.
  3. Crank the engine for 30 seconds, check fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
  4. Raise the front wheels off the floor.
  5. NOTE: Do not hold the steering wheel at the stops.

  6. Crank the engine for 30 seconds while cycling the steering wheel from lock-to- lock.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. CAUTION: Do not overfill the power steering fluid reservoir.

  9. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the appropriate level.
  10. Install the fuel pump relay.
  11. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). For additional information, refer to SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE .
    • Run the vehicle and check the system for leaks.
  12. Carry out the power steering system purging procedure as outlined in this section.
