Section 134 (Engine): Installation: Engine

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

Item Specification
Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP (in Canada Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Super Premium Motor Oil CXO-5W20-LSP12) or equivalent WSS-M2C930-A
Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant VC-7-A (in California, Oregon and New Mexico VC-7-B, in Canada CVC-7-A) or equivalent (yellow color) WSS-M97B51-A1

    All vehicles 

  1. Using a suitable floor crane, position the engine assembly into the vehicle.
  2. Remove the special tool.

  3. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when installing the LH engine mount through bolt or damage to the cage nut can occur.
    NOTE: If the LH engine mount through bolt nut is missing or damaged install a new nut using service part number W709375. If the LH engine mount through bolt nut cage is damaged or missing, remove the cage and install a new nut using service part number W520516-S301.

  4. Position and install and the LH engine mount through bolt.
    • Tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
  5. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount nut or damage to the engine mount can occur.

  6. Install the RH engine mount nut.
    • Tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
  7. NOTE: Align the engine-to-transmission dowels before installing the engine-to-transmission bolts.

  8. Install the lower 5 transmission-to-engine bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  9. If equipped with a 4R75E automatic transmission, position the shift cable and bracket and install the 2 bolts and connect the shift cable.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  10. Install the 4 exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  11. Connect the RH heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.

  12. Install new torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  13. Install the cylinder block opening cover.

  14. Install the flexplate inspection cover and the 2 bolts.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  15. If equipped, position the RH engine-to-transmission support bracket and install the 3 bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  16. If equipped, position the LH engine-to-transmission support bracket and install the 3 bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  17. Install the starter wiring harness support bracket and bolt.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  18. Install the upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  19. Install the transmission cooler tube support bracket and the nut.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  20. Position the power steering pump and install the 3 bolts.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  21. Install the power steering pump support bracket and the nut.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  23. Install the transmission fluid filler tube bolt.

  24. Early build vehicles 

  25. Position the power steering reservoir and support bracket and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  26. Install the power steering reservoir and support bracket nut.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  27. All vehicles 

  28. Position the A/C compressor and install the 3 bolts.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  29. Connect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

  30. Position the wiring harness retainer brackets, install the 2 nuts and attach the wiring harness retainer.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  31. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  32. Connect the degas bottle coolant hose.

  33. Position the ground cable and install the bolt.

  34. If equipped, connect the block heater electrical connector.

  35. Connect the heater coolant hose.

  36. Install the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake MANIFOLD .
  37. Install the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  38. Install the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM .
  39. Connect the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor electrical connector.

  40. Install a new oil filter.
    • Tighten to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft).

  41. If equipped, install the skid plate and the bolts.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  42. Install the powertrain control module (PCM) and the support bracket. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
  43. Install the hood.
  44. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
  45. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
