Main Control and Pump: Installation

  1. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body onto the pump shaft.

  2. Rotate the pump assembly and main control valve body to connect the manual valve link with the manual valve.
  3. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage may occur.

  4. Use the valve body guide pins to install the pump assembly and main control valve body. Install the bolt and tighten in sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
  5. Install the transaxle wire harness retaining clip into the separator plate.
  6. Connect the electrical connectors.

  7. NOTE: The transaxle side cover gasket is reusable if not torn or ripped.

  8. Remove the gasket. Clean and inspect the gasket, reinstall gasket onto the pan.
  9. Loosely install the 15 transaxle side pan bolts.

  10. Tighten the 4 transaxle side pan bolts.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  11. Tighten the 11 transaxle side pan bolts.
    • Tighten to 29 Nm (21 lb-ft).

  12. Install the LH transaxle support and insulator. For additional information, refer to TRANSAXLE SUPPORT INSULATOR  in this article.
  13. NOTE: It will be necessary to reinstall the left side of the subframe.
  14. For subframe alignment procedure and bolt specification, refer to the installation procedure in UNI-BODY SUBFRAME AND MOUNTING SYSTEM .
  15. Using a screw jack, position the subframe and install the 2 bolts on the LH side and tighten all 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  16. Install the RH front engine mount nut.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  17. Install the bolt and connect the intermediate shaft coupling.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  18. Position the boot back onto the intermediate shaft coupling.

  19. CAUTION: Use extreme care not to damage boot seal. Do not use power tools to tighten the nut, or bearing and seal damage can result. Install nut using the hex hold feature to prevent the stud from rotating.

  20. Connect the front stabilizer bar links. Install the 2 nuts.
    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
  21. Install the LH lower ball joint nut.
    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).

  22. Install the LH front fender splash shield and the 5 retainers.

  23. Install the LH wheel and tire.
  24. Remove the LH engine lifting bracket.

  25. Remove the RH engine lifting bracket.

  26. Remove the special tools.

  27. Reconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.

  28. Install the electrical connector bracket.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  29. Install the electrical connector bracket.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  30. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  31. Reconnect the electrical connectors.

  32. Install the air filter assembly.

  33. Install the engine air cleaner and tube.

  34. Reconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.

  35. Reinstall the battery tray.
  36. Fill the transaxle assembly with 0.946L (1 quart) of clean automatic transmission fluid.
  37. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level. For additional information, refer to PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  in this article.
