Symptom Chart

PROBLEM SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Loss of engine coolant
  • Radiator.
  • Thermostat housing assembly.
  • Oil cooler.
  • Throttle body adapter heating.
  • Coolant pump seal.
  • Radiator hoses.
  • Heater hoses.
  • Heater core.
  • Engine gaskets.
  • Degas bottle.
  • Transmission fluid cooler.
  • The engine overheats
  • Low coolant level.
  • Thermostat.
  • Airlock in the system.
  • Coolant pump.
  • Internal engine coolant leak.
  • Radiator.
  • Radiator airflow obstruction.
  • Cooling fan.
  • Pressure relief cap.
  • The engine does not reach normal operating temperature
  • Thermostat.
  • The block heater does not operate correctly
  • Block heater power cable.
  • CHECK continuity in all three power cable circuits. If any circuit measures greater than 5 ohms, INSTALL a new power cable.
  • Block heater.
  • INSTALL a new block heater.
  • The cooling fans are inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Relay(s).
  • Cooling fan motor(s).
  • The cooling fans stay on all the time
  • Circuitry.
  • Fan braking relay.
  • A/C dual function pressure switch.
